The Elite Book on Job Search

The Elite Book on Job Search I skipped my Monday morning network meeting to spend a couple of hours with Ellen and Lorie, owners of Elite Business Communications, coaches and authors of the fresh-off-the-press book The Complete Job Search Handbook. I asked them why they decided to write this book and they said that their experiences as executive coaches usually led them into helping with job search stuff, either for their clients or their clients kids. I asked them what makes this book different among the rest and they said that it was easy to read, there is no BS just good hearty content. I asked them how they found the other job search books that are already on the market to be and they said they were all across the board (I agree with that!). Ive been perusing their book and find it to be helpful. One thing I like in there is that there is a lot of stuff on ettiquite (which this Jason really needs!). I dont remember reading so much on ettiquite other than the normal be professional/strong handshake type thing but these ladies lay out lots of ettiquite for you job seeker or not. For me that would probably be the main differentiator, comparing it to other books. Of course they talk about organizing the job search but they talk about having 35 cards you already know how I feel about that ?? I also didnt see anything on there about personal branding, so maybe there will be a Complete Job Search Handbook Part II ?? I confess that I have not really read many of these (I perused other books earlier this year when I was in my job hunt and hated reading these HUGE things that had too much information, or lists and lists of other resources neither of which this book has/does). I would love to get a copy of CM Russells Ultimate Job Hunting Secrets and weigh in on it. CM (aka Chris) is an online buddy and more in touch with this stuff than most people I know he owns and operates a number of county based job boards and contributes to a number of blogs. I dont know what version his book is in but Im sure it is interseting based on his exposure to the issues. I just read that NBC is looking at cutting $750 million, which will affect 700 people make that, 700 familes. Maybe Lorie and Ellen need to go give each of these hard workers one of their new books as they walk out the door. And this morning I read about the AOL announcement of 1,700 layoffs on the east coast and selling a local office in Utah with about 400 employees who they hope will be able to land a job with the company thats buying it. Isnt it nice that AOL *hopes* the best for their employees? Listen, you can get ticked about the employer hoping but thats more than they owe you. They paid you a fair wage while you were there, and you are now even. If you were looking to them for your career then you dont understand how things work anymore. If you have a job now you need to realize what you got its like holding water in your hand. It can go at any time what are you doing to prepare? Im dying for the 6th to come because the carnival entries are getting gooder and gooder youre going to love what people are coming up with, and it is straight from the heart. What Your Resume Should Include to Become a Dentist Assistant

What Your Resume Should Include to Become a Dentist AssistantCareers in the field of Dental Assistant are greatly increased by the availability of a plethora of job opportunities in the professional world. In fact, the amount of work you will find in this field can be quite overwhelming. All you have to do is to take the initiative and start your job search. Before starting your job search, you must carefully analyze your skills and interests so that you can be best suited for your work. For starters, if you want to make it big in dentistry, there are a few things you should know before you go into the job of a dentist office assistant. Here are some of the things you should think about when you think about doing the job:It's pretty important to have an interest in dentistry, for one, because dental assistant is a relatively new career path. This means that you have to take time to understand what this kind of profession entails. While some people might not find this to be very import ant, those who want to have a future in this industry would like to make sure that they will be able to handle it well. An interest will help you put up a good front. If you feel that you don't have much time or interest in the course of studying about dentistry, you can always opt for a part-time program that is offered by some universities. While taking part in this program, you will also be exposed to different disciplines, which is quite necessary when you are applying for the job of a dentist assistant. Besides, by taking this course, you can also sharpen your skills and learn how to develop programs as well. Most of the people who are interested in dentistry might have already a nice mouth full of teeth, but many of them would not have the right attitude to apply for a position in a dental assistant job. After all, you are supposed to listen to other people's needs, but you should also be able to communicate with them effectively. Also, you should also be very organized and you should be able to manage your time well. These are the things that most dentists require from their assistants, and they would be happy to see someone who will give everything he has to this job.

Networking how to persevere without being a pest University of Manchester Careers Blog

Networking how to persevere without being a pest University of Manchester Careers Blog Youve found someone you think could help with your career, your degree or your research. Youve steeled yourself to approach them and youve been knocked back, or simply ignored. What do you do? Networking can be daunting for many postgraduates but its an important skill which can improve your chances of finding specialist jobs in your field or exploring alternative careers. Its also critical if you want to become a successful academic other academics need to know you and your work if you want an academic career. Its a risky stance to decide that networking isnt for you and just to give up, but you dont want to be seen as a pest. Here are some suggestions for learning how to get it right next time, if youve just been knocked back: Does the person you approached know you, or were you cold calling them? If they dont know you, dont be surprised if they ignore you would you respond to a random person contacting you out of the blue wanting advice on doing a postgraduate degree? Cold calling sometimes works, but its a (very) long shot. Did you make it clear why you chose to contact them? Try getting a friend to look at any text you sent get them to review it from the point of view of the person receiving it. Could you try again but see if a mutual contact could introduce you? That may be more fruitful. Youve met someone before and approached them later for some advice or help When you approached them, did you remind them of your meeting? They may simply have forgotten you its always courteous to remind them of where youve met before. Remember that having attended a talk or seminar by someone isnt the same as having met them. You know who they are, but to them, you may just be a face in the crowd, or the nameless person who kept asking questions. Turn it into a more memorable encounter by introducing yourself afterwards and talking to them try asking them face-to-face if you could follow up on some points with them later. Then, youll have a reason to keep the contact going. No reply to your email? Some people can receive 100+ emails a day it can be very easy to get relegated to the deal with it later pile, especially if they dont know you, and that deal with it later pile will quickly get submerged under tomorrows 100+ emails. Try a different approach phone them, if theyre on campus you could drop by their office/lab (but dont expect a long meeting there and then aim for setting a time to talk at a later date), get a mutual friend to introduce you or even try snail mail. Receiving a real letter can be a novelty nowadays, so you may stand out. However, do give them your phone and email contact details, or even follow up with a phone call or email, where you can remind them of the letter. They seem vague or reluctant to help? Were you clear about what you wanted? Its a fine line between not wanting to impose on someone and not telling them what you would like. Get a friend to check your pitch to see if they can figure out what you want. Are they too busy to give you what you asked for? Ask if there might be a better time make sure you offer to fit round them. Make sure youre only asking for an easily manageable amount of time 20 minutes is often long enough to get some real value from a meeting but not too long to sound off-putting. Could you offer to meet them outside their normal working day? Offer to buy them coffee before they start work, or lunch, or a quick after-work meeting. Maybe they dont have the expertise you seek, or just dont want to take on another person to help or maybe they see you as a potential competitor? Often the reason isnt anything wrong with you or your pitch its them! You could ask if they could recommend someone else you should talk to, or you could give up graciously and try someone else. For a lot of people, networking isnt something that comes naturally, but it is something you can learn to do better. The first step is to forgive yourself for not being perfect, dust yourself down and try a different approach. Id love to hear any other suggestions, questions or advice just drop me a comment (below). All Postgrad-highlighted Postgraduate networking

A Good Customer Experience Goes Beyond the Sale - Classy Career Girl

A Good Customer Experience Goes Beyond the Sale Excellent customer experiences are what every business wishes to achieve, but achieving excellent experiences aren’t as easy as you’d think. No matter how hard you work, customer dissatisfaction is always a possibility. However, as technology enters the business world, positive client experiences are much easier to achieve. To better understand the consumer experience, one must know that the quality of their company’s services, products, and brand are what matter the most. Businesses must ensure that these areas are performing well so that they’re making the best impression on their clients. Now you might be asking yourself, how do businesses reach their goals of excellent customer experience through their digital platforms? They can achieve their goals through two processes: 1. Digital customer journey mapping Digital customer mapping is used by many companies to better understand the consumer’s journey when deciding to make a purchase. It’s a tool that allows companies to observe, compare, evaluate, and analyze a customer’s primary needs and wants in the market. To achieve success with digital mapping, companies must apply the tool appropriately through the methods outlined below. Understand customer and company goals Digital customer mapping begins with understanding customers in relation to their business goals. This has two questions attached â€" how do you plan to achieve your business stability? (goal) and what is your marketing approach? (customer). If you have the answers to these questions, then you are well on your way to success. Check customers’ emotions and experiences It may not be that obvious, but modern marketing does not entirely focus on products alone; it gives value to customer experiences and the customer’s emotions. This is simply a question of customer satisfaction. Other marketing experts are even considering customer experiences as “products” because happy customers represent good business. Look into the entire digital customer journey, not just the sales Here’s the catch â€" achieving a good sale does not end the customer’s journey. Businesses should recognize the importance of “advanced measurements”. These advanced measurements take customer analysis to the next level. It does not stop with the sale, but it closely monitors customer feedback about the brand, services, and products. Tracking includes how customers utilize a business’s website and/or app. It also studies customer interaction with the brand in real life scenarios. [Related:  5 Things Your “About Us” Page Needs To Be Saying About Your Business] 2. Improve customer experience Now that you have a better understanding of customer digital mapping, you can start making effective strategies to ensure customer satisfaction and an extraordinary experience. To increase the satisfaction of your clients and keep them coming back, again and again, try one of the methods outlined below. Freebies One effective way of building positive relationships with clients is giving something away for free. Customers will surely trust you because of your “kindness”. Plus, giving away a free sample of your good or service is a great way to allow your prospective clients to “try before they buy.” Start making your own celebrities â€" client testimonials Keep track of your most loyal customers! Share the positive experiences they have had using your goods or services. Social media platforms are effective channels for spotlighting your best customers. People love being recognized for their loyalty! If you have a few clients who are notable, show them some love. You never know what they can do to increase your sales and boost your reputation! To sum it up, everything comes back to customer satisfaction. The digital customer journey is a long one. As their guide, you should endeavor to make the most out of their customer experience. If a manager wants to take out the best performance from his team, he or she has to give them enough motivation that the team start putting the pedal to the metal and get you such performance that changed the entire course of your business. If you also want such kind of performance from your team, then you have to know the most effective ways through which you can motivate your team for best for the business.1. Pay them their worthevalOne of the biggest motivation in the world is money. However, paying your employ extra can make negative impacts on him that is why it is important to pay them according to their worth. When you hire a ny employee, make sure that he would get more from his last salary or else he or she would always be open to going back to his previous employee. At first, it may seem like that you are paying them extra, but once the employee starts feeling the importance that the company is putting into him, he will start generating the results that you hoped to get while hiring him.2. Provide an ideal place to workWe all want to work in an environment where everything is within our reach. Every employ hates to wait for something when he is on a roll of doing work. That is why to keep up the workflow and to maintain a healthy work environment; it is important to provide a clean and stimulating place of work to your employees to make them feel good and comfortable instead of making them feel bad and dizzy. It will keep them focused towards the work only, and the healthy environment will motivate them to spend more time in the office even after duty timings.3. Provide opportunities for self-developmen tWhen you provide the opportunities for self-development to your employees, the sense of care generates in the employees towards you. They become more valuable to your organization when you equip them with new skills and the employees also feel good after acquiring new skills.Arrange training sessions for them and give them a chance to increase their careers further and provide them with the knowledge of the every new update in the world so they can use all of this for the betterment of the country.4. Keep them HappyOnly a team which is happy with their company can produce those magical results that your company would need to go further. Happy employees are the positive member of every team who also keeps everyone else in the team happy and enthusiastic with their attitude and infectious.evalKeep a keen eye on your team members that either they are satisfied with your management or office policies or not. If they are not, then you must find the reasons of their non-satisfaction and then try to mold it in a way your team accepts it.5. Positive CriticismYour team is younger than you. Maybe not in the age or experience, but definitely in the skills that is why you are the manager and they work under you. That is why there are high chances that they will do mistakes in their work. It is your responsibility to cater that mistake. You can either shout on them or punish them by financial penalties which will make them disappointed and will kill all the remaining motivation.Or you can get them sit with you on the table of dinner or lunch where you can discuss their mistakes casually and can help them out to rectify it. By this, your respect in the heart of your team member will increase, and the motivation of showing you the best work will generate in the employ.6. Set mutual goalsWhen the team members start feeling that their and their team leader’s goals are equal, they feel the value of equality. It is important to set mutual and clear goals to keep the whole tea m on the same page.evalIn one study, 63% of the employees reported that the reason why they waste time at work because they are not aware of their daily tasks and they have no one to guide them. This is where the importance of mutual goals increases because only then you could remain with your team on the same page and your team members would know that you are everywhere with them and they tasks are well defined.Once the team understands the goals, it will start prioritizing the tasks and create their own pathway to achieving the goals.

Job Search Success = 50% Perseverance, 50% Luck - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. A jug fills drop by drop. Buddha According to Merriam-Webster, the definition of perseverance is continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. However, the word severance (which means the act or process of severing) is embedded in perseverance. Not as strange as it seems (but I will let you look look up that one). Okay, back on topic. While some people would probably disagree, I think that luck is an important part of job search. Yes, you do need to have the right credentials and experience, but that is almost irrelevant if you dont get your resume in front of the right person at the right time. Of course, all of the luck in the world will not help if you dont have the best resume with the best experience (which of course must match the job). The Benefits of Being a Beginner (or, Why Its Awesome to Not Know What The Heck Youre Doing)

The Benefits of Being a Beginner (or, Why It’s Awesome to Not Know What The Heck You’re Doing) Beginner’s Luck used to haunt me. There I was, less than a full year into being a Woman of the World (aka full-time entrepreneur), and things were going, in a word, amazeballs. I had coached over 100 people. I was on a consistent 4-6 week waitlist and had been for months. I signed with a literary agent. I’d been asked to lead a workshop at the Etsy Success Symposium, which was a BIG deal. I mean, I can go on. And, despite a recent conversion from pessimistic optimist/optimistic pessimist to full-on optimist, and despite my fairly recent decision to stop waiting for the other shoe to drop, and despite the real, true, honest gut feeling that this all wouldn’t disappear (I did trust it, and it hasn’t yet!), I couldn’t help but hear those very quiet Vampire whispers, saying “You’ve been here before… and remember what happened?” My first full year as a real estate agent, from 2003-2004, I was the #1 agent in the office 5 or 6 times. It was a commission-only job and I worked my butt off 6-7 days/week, but I remember having lunch with a friend that year and saying, “I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner!” At one point the Vice President of the company I worked for started a sentence with, “When you have your own real estate company…” And even though I wrinkled my nose up, knowing that didn’t sound at all appealing, I kept at it, climbing the ladder. I was given my own account to be in charge of, I was asked to train new agents, and I eventually received the largest split in that company at that time. Not bad for a beginner, eh? My second year of real estate? Well, I landed on my face with a big thud. I made something like a quarter of what I made my first year, which was enough to get me into $20,000 of credit card debt and have to continually ask my parents for help. Not good. Not fun. I’ve often wondered if I had beginner’s luck that first year in real estate, and there I was again going into my second year as a Woman of the World, stressing over the same thing. Was all of my success as a coach gonna end up being beginner’s luck? And what the heck is so lucky about being a beginner, anyways? So many of my clients disparage themselves for not being experienced at something, and want to blow right past the beginner stage to the Know What I’m Doing stage. Of course, as a business coach and a fully-converted optimist, I started thinking about all the awesome things that come from being a beginner. Things like: Being totally open to experimentation without major repercussions, and learning the process that works best for you. At the start of a new idea/project/business, your biggest investment is time and energy (usually). The space is wide open to figure out what works for you, whether we’re talking about advertising or time management or your work process. Yes, it sucks if you pour your heart and soul into something that doesn’t take off (like the first time I announced a group coaching program and had 1 person sign-up, which does not a group coaching program make), but you’re able to dust yourself off pretty quickly and tweak what might be broken or move onto the next thing. You have more excitement and enthusiasm now than you probably ever will again. Not to say I’m jaded on lethargic or empathetic. Not at all. But man, when I look at pictures of my Freedom From Corporate America Party, I don’t see a single one where it doesn’t look like I’m drunk on happiness (and margaritas). I was ready to take on the world! Now well, I’m still ready to take on the world, but in a more strategic one-foot-in-front-of-the-other way, not a toss-my-hat-up-in-the-air-a-la-Marlo-Thomas way. (Actually, now I toss my “YAY” crown! Maybe some things don’t ever change.) You don’t have to work too hard to keep things new and fresh. I mean sure, I could have spent years just doing what I was doing, offering private sessions and running one program. I might have done pretty well for myself, too! But since variety is the spice for the multi-passionate entrepreneur and evolution is the only way businesses grow and thrive, new offers were created and old ones were tweaked or cut. When you have a newly hung shingle and one successful offer turns into two, that’s usually all you need to feel that things are working and you’re making it happen. There are little to no expectations, and you accept that making mistakes is part of the process. Isn’t it so nice to be nice to yourself? By being a beginner, you usually tell that Perfectionist Vampire to shut up, and don’t beat yourself up when something goes wrong or looks ugly. But, after we’ve been doing something for a while? Whoa, Nelly â€" that’s when one wrong move has us saying to ourselves, “What happened there, idiot?” or “You thought you could do this for a living?! Yeah right!” Enough, please. What have I learned from my own path? That it’s nice to feel all confident and experienced, but don’t be in a rush to get there. Take your time and revel in the excitement, the openness, the awesomeosity that’s being a newbie. And when you cross the beginner threshold, take the benefits with you: being nice to yourself, working on new/exciting things, being accepting (even enthusiastic!) of experimenting, and keeping your eyes open for the lessons that you’re always gonna be learning. Only then can you create your own “luck”!
